Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
In my opinion, project managers main responsibilities day-to-day is to manage risk, cost and time to ensure a project is on time and within budget to satisfy the client and encourage future collaboration on other projects.
Some examples of tasks a project manager is required to undertake are managing risk registers, EWN and Compensation events, hosting monthly progress meetings and making a schedule, collaboration with contractors and the QS to ensure targets are being met and mainly reviewing the programme.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
My programme is enjoyable and exciting due to the many networking events and apprenticeship days with other apprentices and grads in London giving me the opportunity and independence to explore further than the Manchester office.
There is specifically no hierarchy and everyone is extremely helpful so I feel comfortable talking to anyone and settled in well. By being approachable, this has helped me develop my skills and knowledge as I have had the confidence to do so.
University is also insightful as it relates to topics that interest me and can relate to my job role for a deeper understanding.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Every day is a learning day! From developing the basic skills for example excel spreadsheets to being able to safely navigate my way around a construction site with the correct PPE, I develop my skills everyday as well as presenting myself in a professional environment when liaising with clients and contractors.
I have further developed on my analysing, reviewing and report writing skills from college and school,

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My programme is a good balance of independence to allow us to develop and build confidence as well as guidance from managers and others on the project to ensure we have a balanced workload constantly. The only negative point I would have is the apprentice days are in London and I am located in Manchester meaning hotels and trains have to be booked and the dates/venues aren't released much in advance, making this a tight turn around and me sadly missing a month due to annual leave.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Immense support is received everyday from individuals of all levels in the business. Everyone is willing to support and help! They are also very understanding of health and wellbeing, relieving pressure if individuals aren't 100% and we have our own EAP programme if anyone needs help.
Due to me doing a degree apprenticeship, they are also very understanding if the workload increases when assignments are due and monitor this so extra time can be received when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
As stated above, if the workload at university increases and we are finding it hard to manage with work, they are very understanding and allow us extra time to work on university assignments etc. They also attend meetings with someone from the university to ensure we are meeting our targets.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
At the end of my qualification, I will have a degree and be RICs accredited with is highly appealing in the construction industry and line of work I want to do (project management). My university degree so far is extremely relatable to my profession and helps me understand both my degree more and relate my learning to my profession.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Mace is extremely focussed on organising networking events to help collaboration with the other apprentices and grads to help our learning and be aware of what others are doing and the opportunities the company has to offer whether this be a different sector i.e local government, private sector or education.
