Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

In my day to day, I'll be creating user-centered designs by conducting initial discovery phase by conducting research (through gap analysis, heuristic evaluation or usability testing), prototyping and testing solutions. I'll work with my respective team to solve real world problems and refine my skills in Figma
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I've truly enjoyed my apprenticeship and wished I did this sooner! It's the perfect blend of off-the-job training and hands on experience in a design team. Starting as a UX novice in 2020, I now feel well-equipped and confident in my skills in 2025
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I've developed skills in storytelling, such that I'm able to craft compelling stories and present this to stakeholders. I also adapt at an agile pace at ideation, generating creative solutions for various design challenges. This problem solving ability allows me to tackle complex UX issues efficiently
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It's well-structured and organised. Every Tuesday for me is dedicated to lectures, with the afternoon allocated for individual learning. The company fully supports this, allowing us to use the time for extra reading and skill refinement on technical tools such as Figma and Sketch
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive loads of support from my employer and that's not exaggeration. I have a line manager, apprenticeship buddy and mentor, each playing a key role in my development. I discuss year goals with my mentor, while my manage helps me focus on work priorities and growth opportunities
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The support from my training provider has been exceptional. They bring in leading industry experts for us to learn from, making each lesson highly engaging. Their approach has been fantastic, and I've even had the chance to catch up with them one-on-one, gaining valuable insights to further my development
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification through my training provider has significantly improved my performance by strengthening my theoretical knowledge. Early in my career, working on projects with fellow designers, I quickly understood design terms used in workshops. This has prepared me better and confident when assigned tasks, making collaboration amongst my design team smooth
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Beyond my apprenticeship, I'm involved in extracurricular activities at work. I co-founded Food+Fellowship, an in-person initiative at the bank that brings Christians and non-Christians together to share the Good News. Our team also hosts an annual summer sports day, playing softball before heading out for a pint

I would recommend NatWest Group for its structured approach in apprenticeships, strong support system, and hands on learning. The mix of theory of real world experience helps develop key skills. The company values personal growth, fosters a great community which makes it a great place and company to work for
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to NatWest Group?
I would say three things:
Treat everyday like an interview, such that you show your best self, stay curious and be proactive
Practice constantly - Refine your skills in Figma, Sketch, be familiar with different research methods (if you're applying for an UX role at NatWest)
Showcase enthusiasm - Passion and a willingness to learn make a huge difference
