Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Supporting the statistical design, analysis, interpretation and reporting of clinical studies, working closely with the statistical lead. Interacting with cross-functional team members e.g. medics, data management, programmers, study management. Includes some programming of tables/figures/listings e.g. in R or SAS. Reviewing documents.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I find the programme very rewarding and enjoyable, with lots of development opportunities.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Undertook a SAS training course to develop programming skills, having never used this language before. Developed skills such as participating in team meetings and reviewing documents, as well as statistical-analysis skills and knowledge of new methods.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
A well organised training programme is arranged at the beginning which was very useful as well as "induction seminars" in which we discussed various topics with peers. The supervisors are brilliant at finding work suitable for the skill level. 3 rotations also ensure we see wide variety of work.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Plenty of support is given e.g. a buddy, line manager, supervisor are all assigned by the employer as well as support from other statisticians on the particular study you are working on. As well as the Apprenticeships team centrally at AstraZeneca who provide additional support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Support is given from the university.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The qualification is necessary to perform the role in this company, so this provides another route of getting the qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Plenty of activities on Campus e.g. sports, various clubs. Employee resource groups are available to get involved with. Lots of Apprentice specific events organised by a committee, as well as an Early Talent group.
