Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I work within the capital project teams and we undertake projects to improve our southern sites. The projects we undertake can fall into many categories these mainly being engineering and construction. My day-to-day tasks currently involve supporting on projects.

To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I find the programme enjoyable and there is lots of opportunities to connect with other early careers professionals which I think adds to the experience.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have improved my communication skills through interacting with stakeholders. I have also improved my IT skills, this has been aided by the in house courses that are offered to promote computer literacy.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I have some structure but I think there have been times where more structure would have been beneficial.

How much support do you receive from your employer?

My team are supportive however it can be difficult in busy periods. I feel there has been a lack of support from the early years team at times.

How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Lectures and course leaders are very good and reactive at responding to emails. There can be a lack of support from our personal tutors on some topics such as our portfolio work.

How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The course has really helped me to understand the day-to-day tasks I will eventually be undertaking in my role.

Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

The access to social events is great, there are regular social events for early careers professionals every month. There also seems to be many sports teams available.

It is a great place to work and I think the amenities on offer as well as the social events that are organised for us allow people to maintain a good balance.
