Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Supporting commercial team in contributing construction/engineering projects. Working on applications for payments, onboarding companies, forecast reviews, subcontract orders, invoice processing, reviewing orders.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I thoroughly enjoy my apprenticeship programme, we are very well supported, and receive regularly emails, monthly check ups from both the training provider and our internal early careers teams. Were treated with respect and clearly receive vast investment from Bam in order for us to do well.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Been enrolled and completed various courses, training, and provided thorough information regarding contracts, projects, and other systems that we work with. Involved in meetings, presenting and taking notes has increased my social skills, presenting abilities and understanding of the role.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

We have a well organised early careers team, with a newly implemented system that allows us to talk to a variety of experts if we a have a specific problem/question. I work locally, and don’t have to always work in an office if I don’t need to.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

Loads, as previously stated, we have an in house early careers team that deal with any problems we have, my working team support me with any questions I have, and my line manager is understanding, and clearly sees me as an important member of the team.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

Leeds college of building provide us with key contacts from within the college. They have experience with apprentices, and we have a monthly meeting with them to check on progress, ensuring we are in the best environment for us to learn and succeed in.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

From going to college to working on an actual project, I am able to see how the theory in class contributes to not only the job role, but also my personal understanding of finances. The learning we do in college directly relates to the work we will be performing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We have regularly updates on events, socials, and other things we can get involved in with the business like ski trips. We have a monthly regional meeting across the business which keeps us informed with what’s going on in the wider business. We also have a volunteering day every year to contribute to the community, and engage with our team outside of work.

It’s an excellent opportunity to gain valuable skills in a real life job where your impact makes a change. You can gain qualifications, degrees and training that employers see as useful. Personally, it improves your confidence, skill set and expands the horizons in terms of a future career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
Be honest, work hard on your application, learn about the company and its beliefs, ensuring it is the right company for you. Learn about what investment they provide you with, and what you would do in return for them.
