Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role currently involves validating new technology in the lab, writing protocols/reports based off this in addition to supporting clinical development projects as a microbiologist
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy my day to day job, and also really enjoy my programme with MMU, who are an amazing provider

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt new skills in scientific writing, and microbiology control, and developed on existing soft skills such as presentations/networking

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

I do rotations, which initially were not 100% planned in, but as you go you can have development conversations and rotate based off skills needed to gain/skills gained
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I currently receive lots of support from my managers and colleagues, I also have mentors and receive great support off them
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

I receive support from both my lecturers and unit leads, as well as a dedicated skills coach who organises teams check ins between myself, my company and MMU
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel that lots of early theory when i started my apprenticeship was solidified massively by the units we learnt at university. We have business improvement units in y3/4 and this pushes me to seek out new improvements to impact the business positively
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are employee resource groups, such as Neurodiversity and Network of Women which i personally engage in. they have in person and online events and resources. there is an apprentice committee who organise volunteering days, days out and social activites (i think there are sports teams too)

AZ is a great company to work for, their benefits package is amazing and you do feel like a valued employee. the business is varied so there are many career opportunities available
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to AstraZeneca?
My advice would be to research about the company and find something you are really passionate about. Try to gain relevant work experience and show that you could apply this to the area you are applying for
