Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Training in electrical engineering theory, principles and safety etc through college, and practical terminations of varying systems
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the work, and feel very supported. Some of the tutors make a real positive impact on learning, particularly Gaynor and Dave

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, especially through SASK which is a very positive and hands on environment with an organic approach to learning practical skills

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
There is a lot of miscommunication between BAE and the college, which would have impacted some exams due to cross overs of timetables. Each component works well but would benefit from being more cohesive
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I am completely supported by immediate staff, however due to the number of apprentices on the intake you can feel like some interactions are impersonal
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Throughout the first year our tutors really cared about our success. In SASK we are supported to see the environment we will be moving into.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
We are still at the beginning of our journey, so I’m not really sure how much the domestic electrical theory will support my job role until I am actually actively working in it. We also still have a lot to learn, but the practical skills have been useful.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There haven’t been very many available for first years, but we often see things for second years and above so I am looking forward to getting involved when activities become available

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It’s a chance for life long security in a job you can work to develop and learn a trade in.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Your learning is in your own hands so apply yourself, hold yourself to your own standards regardless of anyone around you and make the most of the opportunity because this town doesn’t have many like it.
