Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Day-to-day, I monitor applications used for trading, where I action issues that occur in order to keep everything running. I also work on documentation that details all the work done, and constantly work with developers to onboard new checks onto systems and applications.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
There's a new challenge everyday, and our working space and company provides plenty of engaging and fun opportunities, within and outside of work.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learned a lot about financial markets and specific applications. My business skills when it comes to meetings and collaborating with different teams have improved as well.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
All of my peers are on-hand to give a helping hand and support me through any questions I may have. Communication with the university is ok, with most coursework done being related somewhat to the work I do.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There is a culture of safety, where any question asked will be answered as best as possible. Plenty of leeway is given as well, with Barclays understanding that the course should come first for me as an individual.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
There's a bit of a disconnect between the Computing and Business school, as well as a lack of knowledge on the work I do at my workplace. The whole academic course is a bit too broad considering everyone does more specific roles.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It teaches me a lot of important valuable skills, with deadlines and different assignments to do. The broadness works in this case to prep me for the future.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are so many to choose from. Sports, clubs, networking, charity events. And these can range from with your team, department, apprentices, all the way to the whole campus. There's something for everyone and adding this one with what we can do at Uni means you can always keep busy and super positive!

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
Yes
Why?
With one of the best pays for an apprentice in the whole country, as well as the jumpstart you get with a degree and 4 years of work experience right out of the finish line, anyone on this apprenticeship will flourish in their careers
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
Always be inquisitive. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Be engaged and always stay up to date with the application process, as apprentices are hired on a first come basis. Show you're interested and positive when it comes to being a person, they care more about someone who can work with anyone, than someone who's just smart.
