Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Planning new equipment within BT telephone exchanges and data centres. Half of the time based out on site and half time based within an office. Working with AC & DC power. Planning racks, cooling units, UPS's and any other equipment which may be found within an exchange.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Block program away at BT's Yarnfield facility. This was a good learning facility and the teaching was of a high standard, it was good spending the blocks with other BT & OR apprentices.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Completed a BTEC level three in electrical and electronic engineering. Improved project management skills, planning skills as well as numerical and literacy skills, I've completed many internal BT training courses and there is further opportunities for development.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The structure was very good although it was significantly impacted by the COVID19 pandemic.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Cannot fault any of my managers or trainers. Other BT employees were also really helpful and would provide support whenever I required.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
A high level support was provided by Stoke college.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It has provided me with a solid base into working with AC & DC power.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are plenty in other locations within BT but not many where I am based (Sheffield). I was a BT early career ambassador, which meant that I could promote BT apprenticeships and networking events to students.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Its a great place to work.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
If at first you don't succeed then try again. If you get through to an assessment centre you must consider ways in which a company can improve their brand and increase their revenue.
