Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My team focuses on writing Board papers around various subjects such as our bonus pull, headcount and attrition and regulatory stakeholder updates. We also write reports such as the gender pay gap and fair pay report, as well as our DRR which is part of our annual report. Other focuses include managing Executives pay.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I am really enjoying the programme as I feel there is a good balance of study and on-the-job training. The qualification I am gaining is in business transformation and fellowship and therefore is very broad so I am learning a wide range of skills such as process modelling, data modelling and digital trends.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Since starting at Barclays I have gained many invaluable skills such as stakeholder management skills as well as more technical skills such as Excel and Power Point skills. My team regularly uses Excel to track pay data and therefore formulas are commonly used. Lastly, I have learnt general skills such as time-management and prioritization.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
My programme is very organised as we have to complete a monthly project e.g. on data modelling. We get six hours a week to focus on this project, as well as attending a monthly cohort call where we can ask other apprentices any questions/ support each other.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I believe Barclays is very supportive as they provide further off-the-job training on transferable skills such as stakeholder management and teamwork which are beneficial for our personal development. We also have lots of people we can talk to and raise concerns to e.g. our apprentice coach, people lead, mentor or buddy.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I believe my training provider is very supportive as we have a tutor dedicated to providing further sessions on anything we may be unsure on. We also have the option to arrange a 1-2-1 meeting at any given time if we are struggling with our project. Lastly, we have group coaching every few months to come together as a cohort to discuss anything we may be struggling with.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I have learned many transferable skills whilst completing my apprenticeship. For example, I completed a process modelling module and then put this into practice at work by creating a swim lane model for the project I was on at the time.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
There is always something going on! I am part of the DEI working group in HR, as well as the citizenship team that arranges charity events. On top of this I am part of an Employee Resource Group, Reach, which supports colleagues with mental health, disability and neurodiverse conditions.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The support from my apprenticeship provider and also my Barclays mentor, programme support manager and buddy is incredible! Also, there is always something going on at my office e.g. on mental health awareness week we had puppies visit our building and another event offered to colleagues was sunset yoga on our L30 which was amazing!
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
Make sure that you do your research on the company before applying or going to an interview so you can see how you align to the values and provide real life examples of this during your interview or application. Also ensure everything on your CV is relevant and has purpose.
