Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I work in the biology department, my main role involves cell culture, assay development and data analysis. I also engage in team and client meetings.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I do enjoy it, the work I do is dependent on what is available so sometimes it can get repetitive if nothing new is coming in. I have learnt a lot though and there are opportunities to shadow people on things I am interested in.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many different scientific skills including cell culture, assay development, flow cytometry, western blotting and biochemical assays. I have also developed soft skills including teamwork, presenting and communication.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Well structured, the rotations are clear in Harlow as there are only a few departments to choose from.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
A good amount, we get mentors who are very helpful and my line managers have given me lots of support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I have quarterly catch ups with my university advisor and my lecturers are also always available for questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
It gives me the theoretical context behind what I am doing.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I am a STEM ambassador so I go into local schools and also host work experience days for children. I am also a community ambassador so I organise volunteering events for staff.
