Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
My role is within In Vivo Biology which involves supporting scientists running experiments, calibration equipment, cell culture and lab maintenance.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the programme and the learning it provides. However, there is a lack of communication and organisation from Kent. We receive short notices, with limited time, between working shifts to prepare coursework, study, or review the study guides. The material is described as being suitable for completion within one working day, but in practice it requires significantly more hours. As a result, I often expect to use evenings after work and weekends to keep up with the workload. I would also like to highlight that Charles River is very understanding and flexible with study hours; however, even with this support, the workload remains challenging to manage within the expected timeframe.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
We are continually developing new skills, and the apprenticeship opens up further opportunities.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
In my experience, the level of structure and organisation from the university is limited, and this is similarly reflected on the employer’s side, where limited planning and coordination are evident.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I receive some support from my employer, as much as they can within the frame job and particularly in terms of flexibility with study hours; however, clearer structure and more consistent communication would improve the overall support.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
There is support regarding queries and questions, but improvements in communication and organisation would be beneficial.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
Although the course is helping build my core knowledge, the way my role is defined and the restricted mean that the module learning cannot currently be translated into practical workplace experience.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
same events and clubs
