Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Improving software development processes in terms of efficiency and cost by implementing automation strategies. Reducing human error and cost by implementing CI/CD pipeline best practices. Attending daily stand-ups to discuss blockers and the work at hand. Supporting teams with AWS queries and helping them implement automation where they can.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
My role provides me with variety and flexibility, which is unlike any job I have ever had. It allows me to be creative and solve problems in a way I see fit, with minimal restriction on the tooling I choose. This freedom ultimately motivates me to learn and become better at my role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Writing Infrastructure As Code, creating CI/CD pipelines, containerization (docker, kubernetes), creating AWS Compute Environments for developments to use.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The structure for the apprenticeship programme was block learning. I'd have a week period where I joined a call with a lecturer, and gained hands on experience with tooling we'd use for an upcoming project. Generally this was ok as it allowed me to fully focus on my apprenticeship for an entire week, without being drawn into other work stuff.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Unconditional support received from my employer. I was able to move teams completely (to a different department) to satisfy the requirements of my apprenticeship and support my learning. No complaints at all.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
My training provider was supportive enough, but with the way the programme is structured some things were unclear.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It definitely did, it gave me hands on experience with AWS, Terraform & Python, which I use day to day in my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Networking events, sports events, conferences, cloud computing challenges.
