Maintenance Technician Review

I run production machinery and attend to breakdowns when necessary. 3 shift rotations every week.

I feel it can be disjointed, as being in a turbulent time in engineering and innovation the things we're training for may not be relevant in a few years time, so we end up playing catchup and being moved from role to role as they prepare for future business.

I receive a lot of support from the people immediately responsible for me on a day to day basis, however as we are all on varying shifts its far more difficult to express issues when you rarely see your managers.

In terms of NVQ and EPA there is a good amount of support in place, however the initial parts of the level 2 and 3 were quite confusing and left me wishing they were more involved.

It pushes me to get onto bigger and more complex breakdowns, however only to satisfy the nvq and epa requirements. The work itself has been almost irrelevant once in the factory as we have very little to do with metallurgy and writing code on an average working day.

Its a well rounded apprenticeship that can take you around the world if you so desire. It looks very attractive on a CV and the benefits (car scheme, parts scheme and employee discounts) make any role here worth looking at. The work itself is very involved and there is plenty of room to move.
