Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work in the Security Section of BT under BT Business. Day to day my role includes checking up on customer estates, handling the team email and finding errors from which tickets are created and solutions found.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy my program a lot as I have an amazing manager and am part of a team which has two apprentices who have just rolled off so there is a lot of support if I ever need any help.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have developed a lot of new skills as my role needed a lot of certificate training on the tool we use. My knowledge of networking and cyber security in general has exponentially increased due to the apprenticeship as well.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The work side of the program is pretty well organised. I had a customised training plan to follow to get me skilled up. However the university side is a little bit iffy but not too bad.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive so much support from my employer. BT is very flexible when it comes to times you may need a little more time to do university assignments / work. I have 1 day a week off for university and can request more if ever needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
There is support, one just needs to have the initiative to use it and be proactive. You are assigned a skills coach who can help keep you on track to completing your degree and if there are any concerns you can voice them to them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
For my specific role I believe that most of the actual helpful learning is learnt on job so the uni side feels a bit like a check box exercise, however I have found elements of modules helpful for my overall understanding of cyber security.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, there are networks within the company which you can get involved in and at the office there is a community of early careers people who get together and do events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because it is a very stable company to work in, especially for my role. There is a lot of support for extra training and learning.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Be open, be honest, sell yourself and your story well as only you know your story. Practice interview questions and read up on BT and why you would want to work there.
