Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Complete installation trials and eventually commission equipment to function as intended on-board once handed over from fitters. Iron out defects found during installation and setting to work. Maintain control of work. Astute class submarine programme.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Extremely happy on my current scheme. Tiring with shifts and university commitment.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Hugely developed work ethic, motivation, communication, focus on quality, personal responsibility, managing safety and attitude.
Learned many technical skills associated with electrical commissioning.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
There is improvement to be made here as there is sometimes a lack of clarity over what comes next and where we'll be in the future.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I'm not somebody who has asked for much but what I have asked for has been supported well.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
My training provider sets up regular reviews and provides clarity on the competencies required to achieve my apprenticeship standard. There is a very easy route to raise issues and escalate them in order to avoid getting left behind.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I'm in a unique position where I am on a different standard to other apprentice in my department, and I would argue that my standard is more applicable to the role than the one everybody else is on. This standard is, mostly, very well suited for my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
BAE Systems has a scheme called STRETCH that serves as a platform to acquire off-the-job learning hours by means of getting involved with extra curricular events.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
A well-established business with a lot of employee benefits and a bright future. The business is heavily invested in its apprenticeship programme and there is a place for everybody here.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
Do your research before you apply, there are so many departments here that you can easily apply for something but have the wrong idea about what it actually is.
