Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Aircraft Maintenance Apprentice with one year off the job training and one year work placement working alongside the RAF.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the varied work and practical tasks. I feel I'll enjoy it more once I'm on my work placement and spend less time in the classroom.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, while I have a strong engineering background I have definitely developed new skills and practices which while many are job specific, all of them are helping me become a better engineering..

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
My particular cohort was an addition and has since faced many organisation and structural issues which has resulted in many hours with nothing to do whilst we are awaiting our placements which have been pushed back 3 months. Despite this they have now come up with a plan and are giving us addition content to study, as well as, addition courses to undertake. The normal course is well structured and other apprentices don't usually face these challenges. Overall there is room for improvement.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
We are well supported through our learner progress reports, open door policy with instructors and the ample remedial available. I have benefited greatly from this and have greatly improved in my essay writing.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
As mentioned previously, we are well supported during our training through our learner progress reports, open door policy with instructors and the ample remedial available.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Very well! Our course is role specific and we work towards licences as well as our level 3 diploma.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes we have a student council and have lots of additional visits from experts who run courses on areas such as 'Addiction,' 'Abuse,' 'Cancer', etc. We also run trips out for new apprentices so new cohorts can get to know each other better.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
Yes
Why?
The courses and company provided ample opportunity for growth, development and the ability to progress. This course is very good for people looking at getting into engineering, especially younger individuals with now prior experience.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
BAE Systems is a great long term career with lots of benefits. Just stick with it though all the course work and it'll all pay off once you are qualified to levels, higher than most engineers your age.
