Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I support the other technicians to fix, service and carry out general repairs on both Heavy Goods Vehicles and Light Commercial Vehicles.
Recently, I have been asked to do these repairs and services on my own. This can be from simple mirror changes to putting new radiators in, alternators and much more.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I really enjoy the programme I am on. It is engaging and is so much better than sitting behind a desk. I am a practical learner and this is the best way to gain the skills and knowledge of being a mechanic without lots of study.
I enjoy college because the tutors are sound and its not like school. plus you can see all of the learning you have put into practice.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many new skills, including safe working practice in a workshop. Ensuring that vehicles are well maintained and safe. I have also learnt the skills of producing my best work.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I go to college roughly every 6 weeks and this is good fun. It is well structured and I know where I stand whilst at college.
The rest of the time is less structured (from a college point of view). I don't see anyone from college outside of the week I am there.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer is great. My boss really supports me and lets me get on with it. He challenges me with a wide range of tasks and keeps checking I am enjoying it and still doing well.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
During my college week it is a 10/10. The training provider ensures that the staff are good and the learning is complete.
Outside of the college weeks is a 2-3/10, I see nothing from them and the new online college work is pretty poor. When i started it was fantastic but this online learning has been changed for the worse.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Extremely well, I wouldn't be able to do half the stuff I can do without the tutors input.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
No

Be honest, Be realistic and be confident. Its an apprenticeship, if you're not the perfect tech, that's okay. They want people to learn.
