Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On a day to day basis I help out the audit team but completing testing, completion and planning documents. Sometimes I will be on a clients site and asking them questions and queries that the team has. All of this is along side studying for exams I sit throughout the process.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
I enjoy my programme largely down to the people I work with, there are a lot of younger people meaning I have a lot of like minded people to talk to during the day which helps the day go fast. I enjoy the work sometimes but it can get a bit repetitive especially before you qualify.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Yes, firstly I have learnt plenty of new IT skills especially with excel as I am using it at a higher level and more frequently then ever before. In terms of soft skills I have been able to improve communication skills as I am talking to new people nearly every day

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
It is structured well in terms of your exams and pathway to studying for your exams, they book BPP time for you which helps for you to prepare for exam season. However the BPP calls and essays you have to write are not made clear enough so they could improve on the communication regarding this.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
The support I receive is very good from my employer, they are very understanding of the position you are in largely because they have been there before, this really helps me when managing pressure and commitments during exam season. They also support you well with your work and are very responsive and acceptant of any questions
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We have good support from the training provider, the content they give you should be enough for most people to pass the exam and they give you enough materials to learn from. For some of the exams there is more support then others so maybe try to even that out more.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I definitely have a deeper understanding of accounting and assurance principals because of exams however this does not always directly relate to the role. Some exams e.g. law and BTF have no real connection to the job so seem pointless. I feel I could do the job I do without the exams.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes there is plenty of opportunity to get involved with sports, social events and activities during your course of employment. I personally play football on Monday, go to the pub quiz that is arranged and also partake in walks and charity events that you can do during work hours two days a year.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Forvis Mazars to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is a firm that is fun to work for, in comparison to other options it seems less intense with a bit more freedom to do other things rather then work constantly. I like the time we get to pass exams and it seems to be a lot more manageable with the work we get compared to other firms.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Forvis Mazars?
I would say just be yourself, as long as you have some skills in the area (don't have to be finance related) the employer is more bothered about how you would fit in the team. Don't be scared to ask questions to anyone too as everyone is very receptive and appreciative of your situation.
