2.4/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I work in audit - therefore conduct testing on areas such as cash, revenue, costs, payroll etc. I communicate with the client on a regular basis, and I manage those who are more junior than me by providing coaching and allocating work. I am responsible for sending queries to the client, and to follow up with further questions depending on the outcoming of testing
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
I enjoy the programme, however it is stressful when you are balancing work deadlines with studying for exams. There is no right way of doing anything when it comes to maintaining a work life balance, and this is often stressful, especially during exam or busy season

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt how to time manage my work and remain organised. Due to the nature of having to wait for the client to respond, it is common to be working on multiple different things at once, so to be organised and keeping on top of all tasks is a key skill. I have also learnt how to delegate and prioritise work

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
The organisation is not great, I am often having to chase the training provider or the early careers team for questions I have previously asked. Communication is poor and there does seem to be a constant change of standards and expectations which are not communicated clearly, leading to confusion. It can be very frustrating to be told things last minute, or to be told one thing and then for it to not happen due to a last minute policy change
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
I have complex health issues, and therefore I recieve very good support from the HR department. However, before I notified them of long term health issues I did not get support at all, despite me telling my line manager I was struggling. The support is there but you need to know the right person to access it.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I receive adequate support, given my health issues I have a support programme, however this was only in place recently, and prior to this the support wasn't brilliant. Contact is via email which has long delays in responses, and sometimes no response at all. When in college, however, the tutors are great and happy to answer questions in their own time, especially in exam sesason .
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I think the qualification does help, but we study a lot of aspects of accounting which are outside what I would do in my normal job. So as far as it does go to improving your understanding, there is a limit as to how helpful it is on a daily basis.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a number of additional activities you can get involved in, however these are really only accessible to those who live near the office. For those with a longer commute it is hard to find time to be able to attend these, which is a shame. Activities are communicated via an email each week

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Forvis Mazars to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Mazars is a great company for those wanting to work in a corporate environment, but without the additional pressures and expectations which come with working for the Big4. The people are lovely, and there is a wide variety of clients you can work on, so it is possible to have a very varied job role
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Forvis Mazars?
