Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I have worked on two clients throughout my time at Mazars. Through the planning stages on one, and throughout the interim, group and statutory phases of the other. I had ownership of testing, and would speak to clients on this matter. Furthermore, I have coached and completed admin tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
At times it is stressful balancing work and an apprenticeship, but being on a Graduate scheme with lots of other graduates it is a lot easier to get through the exams. There have been some administrative mistakes whilst sitting my Certificate Level of the ACA, for example being given study leave when the materials weren't made available to us.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have learnt lots of new skills, specifically in MS Excel. Communication skills, both written and spoken, especially when reaching out to the client. I've also developed skills on how to use client software.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
When we go to college in person, it is brilliantly structured. There were two exams that we had been given study leave for and for the first day we didn't have access to any materials. This was extremely frustrating. However, the marked tests are extremely beneficial.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I think it depends client to client. However, I have received lots of support. My team would never let me work overtime when exams are approaching. Also, no one sits exams in 'busy season', as to make the work-life balance better.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
We have bi-annual catch ups with a mentor, however I feel as though my mentor is completing them to 'tick the box' as opposed to really catch up. The marked tests (AL steps) are probably the best level of support I gain.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
The content of the exams is directly applicable to my job. Furthermore, the dedication to do the exams when on your own time makes you more dedicated in more stressful times completing your role. Also, I must highlight the stress on ethics and professional scepticism the qualification helps me with.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, I am on the social committee. So help to organise events for a certain sector. I have also signed up to talk on a panel at a School Leaver day.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Forvis Mazars to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I find it a friendly, helpful place to work. In the office there is not a sense of hierarchy.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Forvis Mazars?
Make use of the calls with the graduates before the interview, and be willing to learn.
