Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Procurement of sub-contractors, understanding and creating legal contracts, paying sub-contractors, setting up contracts with clients, measuring & evaluating works on site, enquiring out using appropriate design information & correct legal practices to obtain prices, building relationships with clients and colleagues. Separately I keep on top of University works & competency checklists.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

The day to day work & university work is great. The only places where I could fault BAM is through lack of support when staying away at University from the Early careers team and progression is a lot slower when compared to competitors (can be upwards of 5 years before progression).

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Having to be thorough with all legal items we deal with has been a key item of development for myself, this ensures documents are correctly populated and no legal loopholes are created.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

It's very dependant on what BAM do at the time. I've been through stages on the level 3 & 4 where we've had no teacher for months. The Degree programme seems better with my line manager supporting me & the University keeping on top of our works.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

From my immediate colleagues I could never fault them, they are always supportive and willing to help with ideas for assignments or talking points. There is a team in BAM called early careers who sound like they're supposed to help you but you're better off with local colleagues
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

They provide us the educational side at university & provide a work based learning mentor who checks up on myself with a manager present every 2.5 - 3 months. This helps with staying on top of tasks and can help link your work to the apprenticeship
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

For me personally it has been the other way around. My works and the tasks I carry out will help with my understanding of my qualification. Seeing tasks being completed on site is the best way to understand how to talk about a set process in a qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Yes BAM do lots, I've raised over £3,000.00 for charity with support from BAM, there are plenty of regional events, social events & teams to be apart of.

Because they are a reliable employer who can be trusted in paying you on time, getting you the experience you need when applicable & keeping you up to date with business ventures
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
BAM has a very personable workplace where teams work well together, if you are a people person you would fit in well. Also putting in the work is rewarding when it pays off
