Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

Since I am in the first year of my apprenticeship, I am in collage Monday through Friday. Monday we learn theory work such as mathematics and materials. Tuesday through Friday we do practical lessons which includes ten rotations of different subjects. In each subject, I have to complete one - two assessments and a pack of questions.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I feel that the programme has been enjoyable as you are able to socialize with new people that enjoy similar things to you and you can challenge yourself during the subjects you undergo. Sometimes however, the work can feel overchallenging and can make the process less enjoyable but with time, it becomes easier to complete these challenges.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

During the rotations, I have learnt a range of new skills, both practical and theory. So far, I have varied mathematic subjects including complex algebra, forces and thermodynamics. For the practical subjects, I have learnt how to make parts with both hand tools and using different machinery like the lathes and milling machines.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well organised from the BMW side as they provide plenty of support and are readily available if you have any questions. Bmet had laid out a plan for the year which said what you would do and when. However, Bmet did sometimes struggle to keep to their structure and became a little chaotic at points.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

BMW has been very support in the process and is easy to get in contact via phone when you have any questions. This stops you having to worry about things if you don't fully understand something as you can send a quick message and hear a response back relatively quickly.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

BMET has been less supportive than my employer as to ask anything to them, yo have to go up to their offices and walk in. This can feel a little jarring as the doors are often closed so it can be hard to tell if they are busy or not.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

I feel the qualification I am learning is helping me in my everyday work as each rotation I complete helps me more with next. This can be by improving my time management and the practice of completing similar work in each rotation makes it a quicker and easier process for the next rotation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are many opportunities to take part in aside from your everyday work. At the moment you can take part in a news letter which involves writing a bit about yourself every few months. Another opportunity is a charity team which involves setting up charity events to raise money. Recently a conservation team has also been set up.

Would you recommend BMW Group UK to a friend?

Why?
I would recommend this apprenticeship because I feel it has broadened my practical skills and has been enjoyable to learn new subjects which I have an interest in. I also feel that it is a better environment to learn these skills compared to somewhere like collage as you the people there like similar things to you and being paid is an extra benefit.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group UK?
The main tips I would suggest to people applying is be prepared for fairly long hours and some pretty difficult challenges. I would also suggest trying to socialise with people as early as possible and try to establish some networks across the company even if you may not work with them directly.
