Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My role at Cummins is to overhaul and repair engines. Overhauling an engine includes a full strip down and clean and then new parts will be ordered, once the parts are ready the engine will be rebuilt. A repair on an engine could be a small repair or lead to a full rebuild depending on the severity of the damage.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my apprenticeship and very much enjoy coming to work in the mornings. Each day is a new experience full of new surprises. There is so much to learn at Cummins and through the apprenticeship as a whole. Engineering excites me and I'm looking forward to see what the future brings.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Through college I have furthered my knowledge on welding and machine work, such as turning and milling. I have learnt about electrical engineering, including the parts components play in a circuit and circuit building.
I had a brief idea about how engines worked and went together but since joining Cummins I now have a much better understanding of this. I have also improved on my engineering techniques, such as using tools and equipment.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
Very organised. My managers and supervisors at Cummins are always supportive and working on plans for our learning to ensure that we learn what we need in the time we need to. Tresham are also very organised with the tutors being very supportive. The course as a whole has good structure and a clear path to follow.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
All the support I need. My managers and supervisors are approachable and always willing to help. They encourage us to ask for support if needed. If we are struggling with anything in particular we can ask for assistance and they will happily find a solution.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
The training provider are always happy to help, whether it be face to face in the classroom or online work. We can always contact them for assistance and they are happy to help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My qualification covers a broad range of skills within engineering. This helps me to understand the workplace with mechanical sympathy and understanding. Along with a good idea of problem solving.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There is always work to do to help the community. These are easy to sign up and we are made aware of them through email. This could be from helping with groundworks at a local park or building extra places for plants to grow at allotments. A recent one was helping plant trees at a learning centre.
