Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role as part of the Conduct Risk and Compliance Team involves performing Know Your Customer (KYC) checks, market abuse monitoring, transaction monitoring, and ensuring that the activity's within Nationwide Treasury are in line with Regulatory Requirements. I interact with all areas of treasury, and with many senior leaders on a regular basis.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the amount of exposure I've had available to me throughout my apprenticeship. People at all levels have always been happy to talk/ meet about any questions I've had about working in their respective areas. They provide lots of social opportunities too.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have learnt skills within our specific trading software, and my excel skills have improved. My communication skills also get tested on a daily basis when communicating with stakeholders and external banks/ counterparties.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme is well structured, with designated people to handle any apprenticeship specific queries. They plan regular events and check ins to allow cohorts to mix.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

They organise regular events and check ins with our peers at both apprenticeship level and above. They have a good system of tracking our progress that gives us good feedback. They have designated officers for apprenticeship specific queries.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

BPP gives you an allocated mentor who checks in on your progress every couple of months. this could do with being more frequent however I have always found them to be open to any unplanned/ spontaneous calls when I've had questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

The qualification I am sitting is directly related to my job role and activities I do on a daily basis. It is a good link to what knowledge I need to further myself in this area.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

There are regularly organised networking events across all areas within the society. Both with fellow apprentices, IP's & grads, as well as permeant employees and more senior members. There are various communities and groups relating to sports etc that anyone can join.

Why?
Its an inviting place to work, everyone is very welcoming and friendly and they know how to lead new people to the industry to develop their skills, without pushing them too far into the deep end.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Nationwide?
Ensure you refer to their values and blueprint to show knowledge of how the society is structured. Sell yourself in any interviews and show yourself as professional but also approachable and friendly. Make sure you know the difference between a building society and a bank!
