Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

As a first year apprentice, I mainly shadow others from the team as I have no prior IT experience. I have also started to get involved in small projects and have a uni day once a week to attend lectures and work on assignments.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I find the programme interesting and have enjoyed learning a completely new set of skills.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt the basics of network engineering so far and how to interact with colleagues professionally.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The university work is well organised with all the block week dates and modules being given far in advance. There is a set schedule for lectures each week with all resources for assignments made available via blackboard.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
BT are flexible with work and offer regular support, everyone makes themselves available for help when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
Teachers respond to emails and give feedback when asked, as well as regular meeting with the university to discuss progress.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The degree so far has taught me how to configure basic networks and the different components of a computer network, as well as analysis if data. All of these skills are relevant to my role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I have attended a few events specifically for apprentices in different offices, there is also an apprentice board which offers support to apprentices. We are sometimes sent invites for external events from other apprentice associations that we can get involved in.
