Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
i am a civil engineer - I do quality checks, engineering measurements and dealing with subcontractors
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
i have really enjoyed my programme and my company has helped me every step on the way.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
i have learnt how to use engineering equipment and how to do first aid, and CAT and Genny Training and PTS training or working on rail.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
it is very well organised - however doing a week in uni and 3 weeks on site it is sometimes difficult to do uni work all the time. but overall BAM give us time to revise and complete uni work at the same time as working on site.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
i receive a lot of support from BAM. they are really helpful with helping me balance work and study. they also give me training skills whenever i can.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
Leeds college of building are very good with support. they help with the ICE stuff as well as the uni work. it is difficult when not being a uni 24/7 so sometimes contacting lecturers can be a bit more difficult when not at uni but overall they are happy and ready to help.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
it is good to do a week at uni and then 3 weeks at work as you get to use what you have just learned and see it in action on site.,
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
we do Bridges4Skls which is where we go to schools and get them to build a 13m bridge on their own and work together and get a glimpse of what is like to be an engineer and answer any questions they have. we also do school fairs and sixth form events. i also attend socials with BAM such as Christmas social.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
it has really helped me progress in my career. they are there to help whenever they can and it feels like a family. you can move form project to project to get a wide range of experience.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
i would make sure to do a bit of research on the company and their values. also get work experience prior even if its just a week. it will help you massively. also pick a topic in construction that your interested in so you can talk about it if needed in interviews.
