Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
I am in college currently on a full-time basis, with 4 days in the workshop and one day in the classroom environment to be taught the theory side of our apprenticeship.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy it and have made some good friends during the course of my first year. Sometimes it can feel a bit overwhelming due to an large amount of work we are given and expected to complete even if there are extenuating circumstances.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt many things I did not previously know, like how to weld, plasma cut and managed to improve my hand skills significantly.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Now it is well structured and organised, but it took a while for us to even have a designated teacher for our theory days and I feel like we missed a lot of significant time with a teacher in the first couple months. There is also sometimes a lack of room in the workshop where we find one of the fabricators class is always working on one file in a classroom whilst our class is always in the workshop and it seems it would make sense to change that so both classes can have a more diverse experience.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
We do receive support , not only from Babcock but from Vanessa at City College also. It is made clear to us where to go if we have questions and are shown who can help for what scenarios.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
We get a lot of support, and they can be quite lenient with us if there are are underlying things that may have prevented progress etc.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It gives us a more in depth feel of what we are going to do practically, so the theory lessons really helps us understand the craft we work in that bit more which makes our jobs easier.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes, we receive emails from Babcock regarding extra curricular activities, I am not in any but it is clear what to do if you want to partake in extra curricular activities.
