Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I work in a litigation team and so my role mainly involves: being responsible for cases from start to finish and liaising with my Supervisor on case progress, communicating with clients, experts, counsel and defendants, drafting documents, taking witness statements and attending hearings.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the programme - the opportunity itself and the support I get along the way is outstanding and so it is extremely enjoyable.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes I have learned so many new skills since starting the apprenticeship - the biggest one is my confidence in using the phone and speaking to clients. Before this, I was terrified of calling clients or the other side on matters. However, I am now extremely confident in calling anyone external as I do this so often it has become an incredible skill.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
I think the programme is very organised on the employer side of things, however things could be a little more organised on the University side of things.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
The support I receive from my employer is more than I could have ever expected - my employer is absolutely incredible and I have never experienced more support in any previous role I have ever had. I am extremely appreciative of the amount of support they give me.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
I have only just started the apprenticeship and so it is hard to say at this point. I have received a lot of support from the general team through the training provider which has been incredible, however I think there could definitely be more support given from the law tutors who mark our submissions every week.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
It works extremely well together as everything I will be learning on the programme I can put straight into practice in my role, so it helps me to become a better future Solicitor every day.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes, my work offers a wide range of different events, opportunities and groups that you can get involved in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Irwin Mitchell to a friend?
Yes
Why?
It is the most supportive firm I have ever worked for. Irwin Mitchell genuinely cares about their employees and doesn't treat them as 'just an employee'. It is full of kind, caring and supportive teams and is an extremely healthy work environment.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Irwin Mitchell?
Research the firm before your interview, and in your interview really express your passion for wanting to get into law and why you think this firm specifically would be a great fit for you. Don't be afraid to show your personality in your interview as that could be something that really helps elevate your interview overall!
