Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
I am currently a commercial assistant in consultancy, studying quantity surveying at the University of Wolverhampton. My role includes responsibilities such as assessing applications for payments, updating forecasts, assurance work, and shadowing the commercial managers in my team. I am heavily involved with clients through day to day emails and client meetings.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I have settled in really well at Mace. I have met great people and feel content with my journey so far. I feel supported by the emerging talent team, my line manager, and colleagues.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have definitely developed my communication skills by interacting with clients and colleagues every day.
In terms of new skills, I have learnt how to use excel and how it can play a massive part in my role.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The Mace apprenticeship programme is well structured. They offer regular training sessions via teams and also in person which gives you the opportunity to speak to the other apprentices from different regions. Within my first week here at Mace, I was assigned a line manager, a team and a project enabling me to immediately surround myself with those that will support me on my journey.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I always feel supported by my employer. I always feel like I am contributing positively to the team and Mace group as a whole. If I am struggling on tasks, I know who is there to support me and guide me through the work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive maximum support from my training provider. I have been assigned a skills coach from my training provider who attends quarterly reviews to discuss my progress and development on my apprenticeship programme.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I always find that topics I learn at university help with what I am doing at work and visa versa, which is a real pro of the degree apprenticeship programme. I am still only early on in my apprenticeship, but I am sure that there will be a lot of skills learnt at university that will assist me in my day to day role.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Our health and wellbeing team always put on fun activities and update us with regular volunteering opportunities. We have regular office social events and also graduates and apprentices sessions. There is an opportunity to attend professional networking events by staying up to date with RICS Matrics events.
