Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Maintenance/repairs on various plant such as actuators, lighting or batteries.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I enjoy my program as it is something new everyday and pushes me out of my comfort zone to learn.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, I have learnt an industry skillset as I had no idea how to do anything E,C&I before starting the apprenticeship.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
2/5
It is well organised from SSE's side however HETA lets this down as they didn't even start on NVQ when I was meant to and only organized it when I told them, as well as everyone in HETA having different understanding of what I should be doing.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive great support from SSE in many ways, educationally as they have lots of training courses organised and are supporting me through my HNC. I also get great benefits such as BUPA and many other employee benefits.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
1/5
I have a bi-monthly review with a representative from HETA who guides me on what work to complete. However, this completely goes against what other people at HETA told me to do so I feel it isn't great. Also, courses were oversubscribed so we received poor training.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I feel that only my true experience on site has helped me as the quality of training on site was not brilliant due to poor equipment and oversubscribed courses. However, it does look good for my CV.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
I support a lot of WiME events and we do events at schools to help get people involved in the industry so there are lots of community events to get involved with.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Because the company has many benefits in place and is very serious with health and safety. They also properly treat apprentices as any other employee which is the best working environment I've ever encountered for apprentices.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
Seem interested, be a team player and know your stuff about the company itself.
