Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
My Role consists of Helping the contracts team with commercial contracts and learning about the energy market with the energy traders whilst also giving them a hand with some admin tasks.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy my programme, I find it extremely interesting all the different things that go on to make the energy market and learning about it all really gives you a deeper understanding of everything that happens. Also the people I work with are all very nice and supportive and make sure you feel welcome.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt many new skills and developed many more of my skills such as communication, timekeeping, minuting, and much more as this is a fast paced environment and you learn a lot from the people around you as everyone has a variety of experience in different things so it is good to learn as much as possible from as many people as possible.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
My programme is very well structured, I have been given a variety of tasks, projects, and responsibilities within my role, each is tailored to what I need to acquire my qualification. For example keeping track of my progress is one of our weekly tasks that helps to tick off some of the boxes under the my development subject.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
I receive a tremendous amount of support from my employer, they check in with me everyday and make it very clear if I have any questions or anything I would like to learn I can come to them and ask. Also they make sure I am not overwhelmed with my workload.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I receive a great deal of support from my training provider, we have monthly scheduled catch-ups where we talk through different subjects of the apprenticeship and then can review some of my work as well. My training provider has also made it very clear if I have any questions or need any extra support, just to come to them and they can give me plenty of support.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I feel that it helps me to perform better by giving me a lot of different objectives to aim towards meaning I have to do a variety of different tasks and always keep an eye out for new things I could be doing to further my career and current progress of my qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are many different extra-curricular activities that I have been involved in, for example we have had a lot of work night outs and I have been to a conference that was held in Edinburgh for a few days. There are also different sport clubs and much more things you can get involved in.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I feel like SSE is a great place to work, it is a fast paced and very nurturing environment for new comers and everyone there makes you feel so supported. You will never find yourself bored with all the different things you can learn and do within just one of the departments. You will make good friends and build on your networking and social skills which is always a good thing. So all in all I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
I would tell them to look in to our core values and golden rules as these are things we live by when working for SSE. Also to maybe do a bit of research on what department you are going into and see where your interests lie.
