Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role changes frequently as the apprenticeship involves rotating around different departments in the company. Therefore, I get to develop a variety of skills and learn about different aspects of production. I also have to opportunity to do both practical and computer based work.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy my program as it gives me the opportunity to experience many different job roles before deciding on a career path. I therefore gain knowledge on a variety of subjects and develop many transferable skills that would be beneficial in the future.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have both developed my skills and gained new ones. Since starting at Cummins I have greatly improved my CAD and design skills, and can now use simulations to aid in design. I have also massively improved my ability to use tools and machinery to manufacture and fit parts.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well organized with great communication between Cummins and New college Durham, and apprentices are kept in the loop with any changes or updates.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

My employer is very supportive, I have regular 1:1 meetings with both my manager and with the head of my current department to discuss progress and any issues that may arise. There are also many people and recourses available to help when needed.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

New college Durham is very supportive, I have regular 1:1 meeting with the college coordinator to discuss my progress, any issues I may have and what they can do to help me improve. The college coordinator and teachers are also available on teams and via email, to answer any questions.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

My qualification provides me with knowledge on topics like health and safety and hand fitting, which I then apply in the workplace, improving my performance at work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Cummins encourages employees to do volunteer work in order to give back to the community. It occurs during work hours and transport and lunch are provided. There are many different opportunities, for example gardening, litter picking, or going to local schools.

Why?
Cummins is a diverse company with plenty of opportunities for advancement and to switch job roles and try new things. The company cares about employees and makes an effort to help them develop whenever possible. The staff are also very supportive, friendly and always willing to help when needed.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
I would encourage anyone applying to Cummins to persevere as the process is quite long and there is a lot of competition but the job is worth it. Also not to be discouraged if it they don't get the job as many people have applied multiple times or for multiple different apprenticeships.
