Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
We do many rotations around different areas at work. We are hands on as well as desk based and get a full mix of work to carry out.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It is good. some changes made are pushing the apprenticeship towards more desk based design work or as they call it "Supporting roles" Personally i prefer to be hands on and the apprenticeship has always been a good mix. I hope this does not change. College support is great!

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes i have learned many new skills. I have developed more knowledge in CAD software, I have done loads of jobs including disassembling engines all the way to fully rebuilding trucks and fitting all components needed for them to run.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
very well organized however sometimes work is slower due to the ever changing laws on emissions. Work can sometimes be quite but it gives us a good chance to carry out other work like projects and college work ect ect.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
In each area support is widely available and everyone on the site is extremely helpful and friendly. College are also very connected to work so getting support on both sides can be seen. They will always help and do what is best for you.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
I do not think we get enough time to do work. This is just a problem within my work group as we ended up changing colleges. Very important to note this as this has not happened to anyone else. new college is fantastic however old provider was not.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
It is helpful and the units picked can help with things you do at work it is just dependent on the situation and what area you are working in.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
Yes we have all played football. it is a very sociable work place. Outside of work we travel around and go to many different schools to teach kids and help carry out different activities. This is something i have really enjoyed.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Great company to work for. wage is fantastic and the work is really good. If someone is just wanting to know what they want to do in the engineering world this is great to get a feeling of everything.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
Just be yourself. Cummins are not looking for someone who has got A* in every subject. They are looking for people with drive and motivation to do well at work. It is all about the person. Do not be scared if you are quite as everyone is equal.
