Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Shadowing my managers and team and learning from them, managing the painters and the joiners, completing mark ups. Managing the operatives on site on rules, ppe etc. Attend weekly supervisor meetings and monthly kpi meetings.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
I really enjoy the day to day learning on site and learning new things each day, shadowing managers and seeing how things are done. The apprenticeship course is also enjoyable learning different units, completing assignments, as well as living away and meeting new people.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have a lot more knowledge being on a construction site which include the work processes such as walls, concrete pours, installation of doors etc. seeing how jobs are done and how long they take, learned the site rules what is allowed and what is not.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
I really like the 9 weeks or 1 week block away as it allows you to properly focus on the assignments and not worry about work, whereas if it was day release, I think I would find it more difficult to manage.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
Everyone is really helpful and I can rely on my site team for assistance with any queiries on site and also academically, I can email bam and ask for guidance. The teachers at Leeds are also really helpful and sit with us individually so ensure we are on the right track.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
I feel I can always ask for help when needed regarding assignment work and have emailed different people for different departments if it was regarding a specific area of my assignment and I would email the appropriate person.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
I can relate to my assignments as we learn the theory side of construction and how process are done, then when I have come to site I have seen visually what I have written about.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
At Bam we have a sport and social team which I am apart of that has activities throughout the year than can also bring a plus one, I have attended spa days, skiing lessons, afternoon tea, camping etc.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Bam is a really good positive place to work that have very good employees and everyone is willing to help one another and there are flexible job opportunities of expanding into different departments as an option.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
If applying to the apprenticeship scheme, I believe rotational training is very beneficial as it will give a full rounded experience of the construction industry.
