Cost journals
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I’m in my first year. Workload can be high at times but overall I’m very satisfied with the apprenticeship scheme, love the block release setup where I only have 1 college block every year. The team I work with on the framework there’s plenty of support.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Organisation of files for example invoices from suppliers/subcontractors, delivery tickets from suppliers.
Communication skills, working with project managers, site managers, senior and managing Quantity surveyors, cost managers.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
I would say Royal Bam’s technical apprenticeship scheme it is very organised. I have gained lots of work experience since mid November which is when I started my site placement. Also the 9 week college block for the degree is really useful, Bam have used one of the the best building colleges in the UK Leeds College of Building (LCOB) for the degree.
The company in general really look after all the staff/apprentices in terms of welfare and benefits.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
Plenty of support available. Any help that I need at any time I feel confident approaching any staff on the framework that I’m on.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I need to collate evidence from my site placement for my College portfolio. My managers are always willing to help my learning of various aspects of my role which I can include for my college portfolio.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
Slight downside, where I work in Bam nuttall who deal with civil engineering projects not commercial buildings. The college course is aimed at buildings meaning the building contracts are slightly different, for example I should be learning more NEC3 & NEC4 contracts as opposed to JCT.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
College has a football team, there is a running event called BAMATHON, volunteering/public engagement events.
