Overview of Experience
Please give an overview of the insight and what was involved on a day-to-day basis.
On a day to day basis, the DLA Piper team set up various talks and activities to allow the participants to gain a deeper insight into life at a commercial law firm. The first day included an introduction to the firm, as well as a demonstration of their innovative strategies. Day 2 was more interactive, including a group task, and day 3 summarised all that had been learnt.
What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
It was brilliant and really consolidated what I thought about the firm beforehand. I read up a lot about the firm before entering the scheme, but the scheme really drove home the knowledge I thought I had, and even developed on it. I now believe I have a comprehensive knowledge about the business and the roles available.

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have developed skills I learnt in a former placement in Paris. The group task was a great opportunity to put group work into practise, and could well mirror the type of task that is possible at an assessment centre. The scheme certainly allowed my skills to flourish.

What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
The atmosphere could not have been more friendly. The Early Careers Team were friendly and full of energy at every moment, and ensured that everyone was happy and understanding at every corner. The company culture mirrored this, as every speaker was happy to take time out of their day to even take questions at the end of each talk, despite their busy schedules.

What tips or advice would you give to others applying to DLA Piper
Using the company website to research the firm is vitally important, as it's good to know if a firm matches up to your skill-set. If the firm doesn't, you may find the culture is not quite what you expected. It is therefore very important to thoroughly research each firm's values before making applications, and if this leads you to DLA Piper then you'll know they're the right one!
