3.2/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
3/5
To support Audit Teams in the processing and reviewing of financial information.
Communicating with clients to obtain information and resources relevant to the audit process.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
2/5
The role is a substantial change from my previous roles and study.
I appreciate the programme, but find the knowledge and competency required to fulfil the role excessive.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
I have developed a basic knowledge of Accounting so far.
My understanding of Microsoft Excel has also increased.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
As of yet, only one exam has been conducted, so my context is from a short period of time.
I would state it has been an effective structure thus far, though the juxtaposition of expectations between different staff members is clear.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
3/5
Individual support is limited to the availability of relevant staff members.
As an employer, EY provides substantial support - especially through external resources they provide for wellness.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
3/5
As of yet, not much. However, I expect this to develop as my training continues and I am exposed to more exams.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
3/5
My qualification has provided theoretical context to the role.
In a practical environment, I would suggest it is not so beneficial.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
EY provides many extra-curricular activities based on locations, interests, and opportunities.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend EY to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend EY to people whom I felt would enjoy the role.
The role I conduct is attractive to specific interests, so I would not imply that this role or EY is appropriate for all people - as the work and environment is unique from many other employers.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
EY is a collaborative environment, and does not expect new-comers to be filled with knowledge.
During my virtual role-play interview, I was surprised to see people fail because they failed to put teamwork above personal ambition. Communication, respect for others, and a collaborative spirit will help.
