Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
My role as a software engineer apprentice features shadowing meetings as well as completing 20% off the job training such as reading or completing coding courses on Pluralsight to improve my skill. I am programming on different applications and have recently attended a software engineering bootcamp to introduce coding to beginners.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
In myy programming apprenticeship, Im genuinely enjoying the ongoing courses. Theyre fulfilling, and Im excited to learn more about programming. The joourney feels accomplished, and Im consistently enthusiastic about the program, finding satisfaction in the knowledge gained and eager for what lies ahead in my leearning adventure.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
Developed my python skills such as for loops, classes, modules, different libraries that can be used, in-built functions such as randint and also random. I already knew MySQL in the bootcamp so didnt really learn much infact I learnt more in college. I developed some basic JavaScript skills such as how to output and create variables but dont remember the syntax.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program at Firebrand is decently organized, but I feel it could be improved. Allocating more time for pre-reading would enhance my preparation. Clearer instructions would streamline the learning process, and dealing with OneFile occasionally became confusing, reflecting an area where the course structure could benefit from additional clarity and simplicity.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
I appreciate robust support from my line manager, in-work mentor, and Firebrand mentor in this apprenticeship. Knowing where to seek additional help is reassuring. Monthly meetings bring clarity, addressing queries and enhancing my overall sense of support within the program, contributing to a positive experience in my apprenticeship. In this context, my Firebrand mentor is a crucial aspect of my professional growth.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I receive substantial support from my mentor, obtaining resources and guidance. They assisted in navigating OneFile and providing additional materials and are readily available for help. This support facilitated my familiarity with the training course, and the ongoing monthly meetings are crucial, ensuring a well-supported journey toward my qualifications. I thoroughly enjoy working with them.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
My apprenticeship significantly boosts my job performance. Learning various coding languages and understanding computing basics is key. It makes concepts and syntax familiar, and the guidance I receive is valuable. Learning on the job adds a lot to this mix, improving how I perform in my role as I work towards completing my qualification.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
Yes, my workplace offers diverse extra-curricular activities, including emerging talent events, hackathons, charity opportunities, and tech/security events. However, I recommend incorporating additional activities specifically for apprentices. This would enhance engagement, particularly for those, like me, who joined the apprenticeship directly after college, fostering a more inclusive and vibrant experience.
