Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My role is to help the chief chef to run the kitchen smoothly. On a daily basis I am responsible for prepation of food, planning the day's menu and management of inventory. I am also in charge of maintaining high standards of hygiene and preparing service areas within the hotel.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

This programme has given me the opportunity to showcase my skills and learn other skills. It is important to note that this programme is a stepping stone forward to achieving my long goal of becoming a chief chef myself. I have also enjoyed working alongside a great team that provides good services.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have gained important knife skills since starting. I have also learnt to prepare good food. Because we value our customers food safety is an important skills that I have learnt. Also time management. I have also learnt to organize my kitchen well. My customer service skills have also greatly improved.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?

The programme gives out the clear outline of what is expected of an employee. With constant checks I have been able to learn more. The modules offered on customer service and cooking skills for the very backbone of the entire programme. The programme also allows me to think outside the box and bring new ideas.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

The employer has put in place every necessary resource required to attain maximum output . Adequate qualified personel and modern equipment play an important role. The employer also brings training programs that help us to develop new skills. There is also a quality environment that favours work and peace at the place of work.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The training provider through the hotel conducts regular assessment and keep tabs with my activities as I gain the required qualifications to be a chef. The training provider also motivates me to venture into other areas that interest me,this they do by giving additional courses such as accounting and financial literacy.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

With proper background in catering and cooking, customer service and hygiene I have been able to handle the challenges that come with being an assistant chef. I have full confidence in my training provider's efforts to train me into becoming a responsible , highly performing and highly rated chef of the new generation.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

We often hold cooking competitions in the kitchen and winning means you get more skills. Also we partner with other groups such as schools and do feeding programs within the town. Also, we participate and volunteer in community initiatives and activities such as tree planting and cleaning the city on a regular basis.
