Every day at McDonalds as a business manager, my main role is to run the business, however working the floor with the staff, interacting with them, and the customers is a key factor in getting the best out of the team. No matter the day there is always a new challenge to face, or a new way to face an old challenge.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I really enjoy the way the program is set up, having a good mix of in-class sessions aswell as studying from home/work really allows me to balance my life correctly, it allows me to study and learn, while also continuing to work full time and provide for my family.
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Being part of the Team at McDonalds is about always learning, either from official sources like SOCs and E-Learning or on the job learning by working with colleague's to help each elevate each others weaknesses into strengths, its this great team spirit and willingness to help each other out that makes McDonalds an amazing place to work.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

The course is very well structured, with the exception of a few last minute staff changes at the university, however these can not always be helped. This is the only time I feel like the communication from the University has not been 10/10, as said though, this can not always be helped or planned for.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

McDonalds as an employer is very supportive in the Apprenticeship program, often actively looking to entice more people to consider the program, on the whole they are very supportive with providing on the job learning time, and time to complete assignments ect, aswell as great access to company information to help with writing assignments.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

The support from the Team at MMU has been absolutely fantastic, even if the tutor you contact is not assigned to that specific subject they will always do everything they can do get you to the right contact. The team is always pushing us to develop ourselves and our grades with tips and best bets, aswell as sharing their knowledge and experience where they can.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

Even though I have worked for McDonalds for almost 20 years, I am still new to my current role as a BM, and I feel that the apprenticeship program is really helping me see issues within my store and the company with a fresh outside perspective, which is helping me tackle issues with an new, often more effective approach.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

Between work and University there are always different functions to attend to help with networking, that are open to join, aswell as this there are many different group activities or sports that can be joined depending on preference. I do think a greater frequency of sporting meet ups in the company would be good for many mental & physical health.

Why?
Although McDonalds life can have its ups and downs, having worked for McDonalds for close to 20 years, I can confidently say its the people we work with that make the job great, everyone is always looking out for you, and always making it a friendly and helpful environment. Over the years I have made many life long friends working in McDonalds, and would recommend it to anyone.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to McDonald's?
McDonalds can be a tough place to work when you are first starting as there are many things to learn, often lots of people on shift, and many different things all going on at once, however once you have settled in after the first few weeks, its a brilliant place to work, especially the flexibility of shifts whilst studying for example.
