Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Systems Engineering involves overseeing the engineering, business and management aspects of a project or a system, and makes sure that all the parts properly work together. With a mixture of admin and data management to getting hands on with projects systems engineering is a wide process of guiding a product through its lifecycle.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
Although you will work hard, you are also rewarded quite heavily for the good work you do and is recognized by both managers and co-workers. The program I am currently on has very friendly people that are always willing to help whenever possible providing an enjoyable work atmosphere for all.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
I have learnt a variety of new skills at Lockheed Martin, progressing through my very early career has shown me a totally other side of engineering using skills from everyday life and developing my knowledge in such things as computers and logical thinking to solve problems presented day to day.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
Being an international company, Lockheed Martin must be well organized and very well structured. From my experience here the opportunities for apprentices are uncapped with a wide variety of roles that Lockheed are very happy to involve you in as much as possible (providing interest is shown) and will guide you to be as good as you can.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
As previously stated, the support form my team and the people that you ask for help are always happy to take a few minutes and show anyone that is struggling how to complete a task. The colleges I am working with currently are kind and patient, however they will also test you and sharpen your skills by making you think about a problem and come up with a solution or improve another's solution.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
I am provided with a lot of support from my employer as each week i am given a few hours to catch up or do any work that i did not complete within college hours or work that is set for me to do at work. Also, coworkers are all level headed and understand the importance of achieving qualifications.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
My qualification is not directly linked into my role as there is no qualification for exactly what I do, however my job has strong links to my course with many skills being transferable to different roles as well as my own which will help me later on in my career.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
As I work away form Lockheed Martins main UK base it is to be expected that there may not be as many extra curricular activities to get involved in, however there is other activities that can I can be involved in online or things to travel to such as Insights Discovery event in London.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Lockheed Martin to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Lockheed Martin are not only a very reputable company with many career opportunities for any role from STEM heavy engineering to the more personality customer based side, but they also are very happy to build you up and will not shy away from improving their employees skills and understanding making them a great company to work for.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lockheed Martin?
In an apprenticeship role you are expected to know very little about the role if nothing, therefore you will stick out if you ask as many questions as possible and try and get involved in as much as you can. You can go as far as you like in Lockheed and all you must do is work hard and be interested in what your doing.
