Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
On an average day, I work with an international team of developers, infrastructure admins and project managers to build software that will be used across the world. I'm involved in every stage of the process from Architecture Design, Build & Development as well as Testing & Deployment. I get be a technical lead in the project as well as provide training for other developers too.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
My Degree Apprenticeship has been great. When I first started, I didn't know what to expect from the course however it has been perfect. I've been pushed in the University course to achieve my best work and learnt lots of new skills in this area. At work, I get to be a technical lead on a high-visibility project and also share knowledge across the team.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
During the apprenticeship, I have significantly grown my development skills. Over the time of my apprenticeship, my projects have grown in complexity and in turn have allowed me to learn more complex architectural design decisions. Through my university & company I have also been provided many opportunities for extra training to progress my learning further.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The program has been structured well, with 1 day a week in University for lectures as well as time available during my work days to get university work complete. Work based training has also been provided to help me get ahead and mentoring relationships have been available with subject matter experts.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There is lots of support provided by the employer. I get regular check-in with my manager to review my workload and provide help with my day to day work. I also have a daily standup with my project lead to get help from the rest of the team on any blockers I might have. Finally, I have received support from a personal mentor who was able to provide advice for a specific subject matter.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The university training provider provides regular check ins to ensure that all my modules are goin okay. Each module lecturer has also been good at providing support and answering any questions I may have. They have also been available outside of lecture hours to provide additional support closer to submission deadlines.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
Through the university course, I have learnt lots of technologies that have helped me perform better in my role. I've learnt extra languages (Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Kotlin), developed for a wide variety of platforms (APIs, Web Apps, Mobile Apps) and have learnt about software development lifecycle practices such as CI/CD.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
There are a few extra-curricular groups & activities that you can get involved in. We have important Employee Resource Groups such as: "Women in Engineering ERG" & "Mental Wellness ERG". We also have volunteer opportunities which employees can get involved in such as our STEM outreach events hosted internally and at local schools/colleges.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Lockheed Martin to a friend?
Yes
Why?
Lockheed Martin has been a great place to work. With their new work schedule, employees only have to work 4 days a week with every Friday (or Monday) as an extra day to their weekend. Lockheed Martin have provided great training opportunities to help me progress my knowledge and have provided lots of opportunities for growth.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Lockheed Martin?
If applying for a technical role, then show that you're actually interested in that subject matter. Best way to do this is to start with personal home projects. For example, if applying for "Software Engineering" then write your own software at home. Show that you have a passion for the role outside of work too
