Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
I am a Second year (Senior) trainee auditor and I am part of a team which audit's public sector clients (NHS, Local government etc.). On a day-to-day basis, we perform tests to ensure the accounts published by these entities are accurate. We have a lot of interaction with client's both on a day to day basis over emails, or weekly on catch-up calls.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
4/5
I enjoy the programme. While studying and the qualification (ACA) is difficult to do along side working full time, it is manageable as long as you are organised. The training we receive is good and helps with our day-to-day work. The exams also support our work so the more exams you sit the more proficient you are in your role.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
I have learnt a lot of skills since starting. I have developed my communication a lot, both professionally and personally. As well as that, I have become more proactive by reaching out and chasing the clients when we have a deadline to stick to. I have also taken on more responsibility and become a team leader, developing my leadership skills.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
4/5
The programme is structured, we have a designated development team at the firm which manages our study leave, exam sitting and also any internal training courses we should be attending. We know exactly what days we should be working or training and what days are available to take as study.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
As it is such a large company, the support you receive is more localised. We receive a lto of support from our line manager, along with other members of the team that have gone through the same process. The development team is also supportive and are there to help with any problems.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
The training provider is very supportive. We have access to tutors from the beggining of the course, right to the day that we sit the exams. That includes weekend responses in the final few weeks prior to sitting the exam. We receive materials, along with recap sessions and revision sessions that help prepare us.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
4/5
I feel like my qualification has really helped me. While not all exams directly relate to your role, there are at least a few per sitting which contribute to the role you are doing and help aid your understanding. I feel like the more exams I do, the more I better understand the work I am looking at.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
4/5
Yes there are. The office puts on a lot of social activities and within individual teams you also have your own team meetings, lunches and get togethers. While i haven't joined any, there are sports teams and other networking events that can be joined if that is something you like.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend Forvis Mazars to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend Mazars. I think it is a really inclusive company, you feel very welcomed the minute you join. Everyone is really nice and wants to help you. The culture is also really good, while we are busy, the pressures faced by other accounting firms, do not seem to be as prominent at Mazars.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Forvis Mazars?
I would recommend others applying to just be themselves. Try not be to be nervous and just be relaxed on the day of the assessment centre / interview. The culture is great and will make you feel relaxed on the day. If it's the right fit then it will work out.
