Overall Rating

3.5 /5

The Overall Rating is the average of all the ratings given in each category. We take those individual ratings and combine them into one final score!

3.5/5 - Overview of Role
3/5 - Skills Development
3.2/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Liaising with mentor working towards a number of operational authorisations, completing academic work for the courses done alongside working, completing a variety of placements both operationally and in other business areas to experience the entire company
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
3/5
It's a largely self-motivated and flexible programme which I find enjoyable. It's an opportunity to experience lots of different roles and find out what you do and don't enjoy, though they have an expectation of the type of role they'd like you to end up in

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
3/5
Developed skills in time management, teamwork and communications due to the number of different personality types I engage with throughout the programme. Have completed a number of professional qualifications alongside working as well.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
The programme is largely self structured. There's a rough outline of expectations to complete prior to finishing and the education side of the programme is well structured but the work itself is largely self-led. This allows the freedom and flexibility to learn at an appropriate rate.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
There's lots of support from a range of sources from the learning a talent team to workplace mentors. Everyone is very accommodating to the trainee's individual requirements if the effort is made to reach out.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
4/5
If support is required then there's the opportunities for support from other trainees if your line manager is contacted.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
The qualifications are useful to have but don't really assist much with the day-to-day activities of the trainees. The project management is more useful for the graduates than the trainees.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
To my knowledge there aren't really many social activities or sports teams aside from if a staff member is leaving or christmas meals/activites. There are opportunities for trainees to attend monthly engineering meetings with other industry professionals.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend SSE to a friend?
Yes
Why?
There's plenty of support and flexibility to direct your career in the direction you desire. The benefits are good and the pay is good, especially for so early in your career.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to SSE?
Be vocal about any issues and don't be afraid to be pushy with people. People won't make time for you if you don't ask for it.
