5/5 - Skills Development
1.2/5 - Structure and Support

Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Visit customers homes and businesses to install or repair their telephone and broadband infrastructure. Maintain the above-ground and below-ground infrastructure. Install and construct new infrastructure.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
1/5
The programme has been so upsetting. I was sick with stress.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Yes, learned a huge amount of new skills and developed old ones.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
1/5
The programme is structured very badly. I would say I have learned very little from teachers, trainers, and coaches. I would say 90% of everything I know has come from other engineers.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
1/5
On my very first day, I was told off for not working fast enough. On my very first day. There is no support. The company is brilliant at advertising the support that they offer and it is numerous. However, if you approach the company and request support you will receive none.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
The training provider is good BUT they provided support to pass the exams. Only to pass the exam, not do your actual work.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
1/5
I feel the qualification has done absolutely nothing to help me in my role. If you joined the company and were solely trained by one of the other engineers, you would be equally as qualified.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
1/5
None.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BT Group to a friend?
No
Why?
The bullying within the company is real. Managers are completely out of touch with the engineers. The company has no regard for mental health. However, they claim that they take mental health seriously, this is a lie and not reality. I filled out a survey and I had to write the good things that are working for BT. I found two, you get cheap broadband and you get to take your van home with you, which means you do not have to commute.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BT Group?
Do not apply.
