Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

as an apprentice site engineer my main responsibilities are setting out on site as well as surveying what has been constructed using the surveying equipment as well as completing quality control check sheets
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

i very much enjoy the program, with the block of college at the start of each academic year ir makes it easy to focus on assignments then having the rest of the year on site allows me to learn and progress uninterrupted by uni work
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i have learned many new skills as well as developed several skills, i have learned how to use all the surveying equipment such as total stations and GNSS and i have developed skills such as proficiency at excel and CAD
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

the program is well structured with blocks of college then a 12 month block on site, with regular meeting with assessors from college, once on site the apprenticship team do not have a massive amount of communication but are there to answer any queries
How much support do you receive from your employer?

i recieve plenty of support from not only my line manager and team on my project but also from the apprenticship team and leeds college of building, it is clear that everyone wants you to perform well and progress as an engineer
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

we recieve plenty of support for our academic qualifications, with the large college block and then time at work to complete stuff towards the end point assessments
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

the qualification aids the role by providing information that might not get learnt on the job as easily, e.g. project management techniques and the legal side of engineering as well as allowing us to research other projects
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

there are not many social events provided by the company but there are yearly parties as well as opportunities for site visits and visiting other bam offices. at my work though there is an engineers night one evening where we go out and play darts/pool

Why?
very supportive place to work and develop as well as great benefits such as expenses for travel and accommodation as well as providing travel and accommodation for the college block, also its a great course over a very reasonable time period
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
ensure you have researched the company as well as projects for your assesment center and interview, as well as including all the non academic activities and achievements on your CV
