Overview of Role
Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

my role involves inducting new workers who come onto site as well as taking deliveries. i also work closely with subcontractors and ensure they are given the tools they need to complete the task. whilst doing this i must ensure health and safety on site is a priority and the standards are met by subcontractors.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

i really enjoy my program as i am able to enjoy the college/ university experience along with working daily and having a normal schedule as i believe this matures me whilst still being able to enjoy the education side. i also really enjoy that i am now earning money and also love to see the progress in the building industry
Skills Development
Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

i have developed many skills and learnt lots during my apprenticeship. i have not only learnt all about the role of a site manager and how i can fulfill that role but i have also spent a fair amount of time with our site engineer who has taught me how to use the equiptment and do things such as set up, mark out tables, create surveys and far more.
Structure and Support
How well organised/structured is your programme?

I believe it is very well organized as the way it is set out is so that the start of the programme is 9 weeks at college allowing for an enjoyable introduction, then followed by working on site for a year until returning to college for one more 9 week block and the 3 years following we spent 1 week quarterly at university.
How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive lots of support from my employer in all different areas. from my site team, site managers, engineers, surveys and much more re extremely helpful whilst working on site i also then have my educations organizer who allows me to attend different events. giving me new and interesting experiences pushing me in the right direction and progressing my development.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?

there is lots of support provided for me from my training provider. for example, i am currently completing KSB which are knowledge skills and behaviours over the course of the year before returning to college and i have monthly meetings with my assessor who guides me in the right direction and gives me plans.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?

i believe that the training is not so specific from what i learnt at college but by going and learning about this i was able to get a much better general understanding of the building industry allowing me to focus on my role when arriving on site instead of having to disperse my focus across many things
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)

there are extra curricular activities. For example, there was a Christmas do which i attended which was nice to see everyone from work in a different manner. there are also events i attend some which are charitable and others which are to raise awareness of apprenticeships and push our program out there.

Would you recommend BAM to a friend?
Yes
Why?
i would recommend BAM as it is full of opportunities and what i believe to be the best possible career route due to providing a degree qualification at level 6 for zero tuition fees and no loans required. on top of this you complete the apprenticeship with 5 years work experience and no debt along with 5 years of saving as through the apprenticeship with BAM you are paid well and given raises throughout the year. it also gives you a focus and drive to achieve
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAM?
the advice i would give is to put your all into it as it is such a phenomenal opportunity and if you are lucky enough to be accepted onto the program it should not be taken lightly. i would advise people to take pride in their work, create a healthy schedule and healthy relationships with colleagues.
