Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
5/5
Auditing financial statement, interacting with the audit engagement team and the management of client regularly. Completing testing and requesting support to different areas. Agreeing support to different areas and following up with queries. Assisting other senior team members with more simple tasks where possible to alleviate workload. Working in a team.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
Do enjoy the programme, meet a variety of different people internally and externally. Have lots of exposure to different areas of the job, not one day is the same so does not get boring or repetitive. Get time off for study leave which is a good period of time too.

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
5/5
Learnt a wealth of new skills and developed deeply existing skills. For example, becoming more proficient in Microsoft Excel, becoming more efficient as using it on a daily basis. Communication skills being developed further and personal responsibility being developed. Becoming more ethical and demonstrating professional scepticism on a daily basis.

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
5/5
The apprenticeship is very organised, from the beginning first 100 days are set out so you know what you will be doing. Dates are put into diaries far in advance so you can book your time around it, so it is very organised and allows you to be organised yourself.
How much support do you receive from your employer?
5/5
From the employer, we receive a wealth of support from ranging from monthly catch ups with managers to discuss any issues, buddy systems with people in higher year groups to discuss any issues that they may have also experienced and social activities on a regular basis so it is not isolating.
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
5/5
From the training provider, BPP we receive a lot of support as we are working towards qualifications. From group calls every couple of months, a dedicated email address to contact for support and kick off calls before we start studying new exams to provide an overall presentation of what to expect.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
5/5
The qualification helps to perform better in the job role as it provides technical knowledge which can be transferred to the work place which are vital at performing better. It also provides soft skill training such as communication, decision making and adding value which help work in a team in work.
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
5/5
There are a wealth of extra curricular activities to get involved in at work. These include monthly socials which are organised to suit a wide range of interests. There are also sports teams including football. There are professional networking events which regularly take place so there is lots going on.

Recommendations & Advice

Would you recommend BDO to a friend?
Yes
Why?
I would recommend this job and office to a friend (and already have) as it is an ideal place to work. The people are extremely friendly and helpful which helps you settle into working life straight from university. There are regular social events to get to know people more too.
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BDO?
Tips and advice I would give others is to more than anything, just be yourself. Do not try to pretend to be something you are not as you may end up not enjoying the job when it comes to it. The careers team are not trying to catch you out with any questions - just get to know you.
