Overview of Role

Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
4/5
Within my placement I am given various tasks and shown into what the role entails. In my current placement I have been shadowing attendance and conduct meetings, note taking where appropriate and I have also done my own preliminary investigation which was a great way to pick up new skills which can be applied when managing people within policies.
To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
5/5
To start off with it was okay, but as I have progressed further within the programme I am really enjoying it, the placement I am in now (policies and standards) have a really great team who have been helping to push me develop new skills which are key within the business

Skills Development

Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
4/5
My communication and confidence has improved since starting on the course, I have learnt how a meeting should be structured and all the policies that we have to work within, I have also learnt how we deal with unions as cabin crew are covered by Bassa who often attend the meetings to ensure the crew are being treated well

Structure and Support

How well organised/structured is your programme?
3/5
Being the first lot of apprentices after covid, to start with it wasn’t very clear but as it got up and running the system has massively improved, connecting on teams has made it a lot easier for everyone to communicate to address any issues or concerns. The rotational process is good
How much support do you receive from your employer?
4/5
My employer does 1-1s every now and then or if I request to have one then they accommodate for that, however, I don’t think that they need to do them often as within my placement my team are my main point of support, having weekly 1-1s with my placement manager and members of the team are always around if I need anything
How much support do you receive from your training provider when working towards your qualifications?
2/5
Although they are based remotely most of the time I still think that there is a good effort from them to support us, we have monthly workshops where we learn key business fundamentals, if I ever had any issues then I can email them and set up a meeting and they usually get back within the week.
How well do you feel that your qualification (through your training provider) helps you to perform better in your role?
2/5
I feel that it supports me in knowing some things that I might not have been aware of before such as British values and workplace health and safety; which helps me day to day within my role, performing better with my new skills and knowledge learnt from them in the workshops
Are there extra-curricular activities to get involved in at your work? (For example, any social activities, sports teams, or even professional networking events.)
3/5
We do team days, which is a great way for the team to get together and update on everything that is going on within the department and the business and it’s nice to be with everyone not working as it is a time to socialise and catch up which is good for a healthy work life balance

I think that they are a good employer as they offer many opportunities and areas that you can move around to to gain different skills; see new areas and find out what you do and don’t like which will help in the future when going for a job to ensure you will like it and suit it
What tips or advice would you give to others applying to British Airways?
Come at the application process with a good mindset and attitude; it may seem like a lot to start with and for many it may be their first job but stick through with it and it will work out well if you fit the job. It is a great opportunity and definitely worth going for
